Nepal and the power of stories
By evad5735
Bryan, a GROW intern from University of Washington in Seattle mentioned his Anthro professor does some pretty interesting research in Nepal focusing on the negative effects of short term medical volunteer camps or “medical voluntarism” on rural communities. This is a TED talk he did in Hong Kong this last summer where he talks in more detail about his research. He is a big supporter of GlobeMed and its values as we maintain long-term partnerships, but his research reminds us to think critically about the work that we do abroad.
